While I was at one of my favorite antique stores I came across these chest of drawers for $15.00!! A friend of mine told me I was crazy if I didn’t get it so I guess I own chest of drawers that I didn’t need… until now. I have just been storing junk that I didn’t know where to put in it. Now I need a spot to store towels and such. I thought these would look beautiful in our bedroom with the renovation we are doing in there so you know what that means…chest of drawers redo!

So let’s get to freshening them up so they will go with what I am envisioning for the room. I’ve really loved the look I have seen with natural wood on the drawers and a color on the rest. But that could all go down the drain since I don’t know what’s underneath all this paint it has on it. Dismantling time.
SANDING
First, I took off the pulls and filled in the spots where some of the trim had come off with wood filler. If you’re going to use this you need to remember to sand it LIGHTLY with a piece of sandpaper not a palm sander because it has a very soft finish and it doesn’t take much to sand it down. I also let it dry for about an hour just to be sure because I could just see me starting to sand it and it all just comes off….
While it was drying I figured I might as well sand down the front of the drawers to expose whatever surprise was waiting underneath. Praying that it looked like I envisioned. Yes JACKPOT!!
Now that I could uncross all my fingers and toes while seeing that outcome I could now go ahead and sand the rest of it. And sand I did through the GREEN, WHITE, and GREY?!
PAINTING
With my arms tired and me covered in sawdust I pulled out the paint. The beautiful paint color Sherwin Williams Deep Sea Dive is so rich that I know I will definitely be using it again. But that’s for another post and day lets focus here people geez. When it came to the finish of the front of the drawers I just wanted to bring out the natural color of the wood not change the color of them. So I went with two coats of minwax polyurethane clear satin finish. Now I will say that I tried using a clear gloss polyurethane that I already had and it came out cloudy. I don’t know if it was an old can or if I just didn’t apply it correctly but I had to sand it off and go and purchased a new can going with a satin finish this time. Perfect.
POLISHING
When it came to the pulls I knew that they would polish up beautifully with a little elbow grease and some Brasso since they are solid brass. Look at those babies shine! Like I’ve heard before “Like a shiny new penny” and if you haven’t ever heard that then we have bigger problems than these pulls.
And the big reveal goes to this PYT (enter Michael Jackson song here).
Isn’t it gorgeous! It will look beautiful completing the look of our bedroom renovation. I must admit it is the best $15.00 I’ve ever spent.
