The Back Entrance:Transforming It Into A Captivating Space

Do we have a front door…yes. Do we use it…no. Why? I have no idea. I think it pretty much came from all our friends and family coming over and always using the back door making it the main entrance. I mean when you come to think of it which door do you use when you go over to someone’s home that you know? How many times do you actually go in their front door? Not many.

In knowing this I knew that I wanted the entrance to be completely fantastic. Which I just didn’t feel when I walked in our back door:

(I don’t know why these pictures would only load like this but anyway)

Going into this I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do but when I saw this wallpaper from Milton and King it was as everything clicked for this spot. At first I seriously thought about doing the wallpaper on every single wall but then I thought it would be to much. To over powering. But how about one wall….

As far as doing the ceiling black I always knew I wanted to do it. Ever since I saw one of my favorite influencers and incredibly talented Carmeon Hamilton do it I fell in love with how gorgeous it was. I also wondered why I haven’t put more dark colors in my home before. I’m sure it’s because we have always been told that dark colors make spaces look small. Well this room is one of the two smallest spaces in our house and it is the first room to get a dark color. The darkest color of them all BLACK!! I’m here for it all truthfully. I was really really nervous right before I touched brush to ceiling but as soon as I did it it was if all the tension I had drained out of me. IT WAS PERFECT. PERIOD.

Now if you look you will see I used the same paint colors that I used in the laundry room here reason being these two rooms are pretty much connected so I wanted the spaces to flow together giving them the look of a bigger space. That is why you will see that I actually ended the black paint in the laundry room as well as why I painted the laundry room doorway trim black as well. It gives the illusion that the ceiling goes on further.

As far as the opposite wall I picked art pieces that in my mind made you release that tension you may hold in all day at work. When I walk in and see these pieces it reminds me to take that breathe and let it go. Two of the pieces I purchased from iamfy , they also will frame it for you for a little extra. The third piece I purchased from city and state in their collaboration with Carmeon Hamilton. The whole collection is fantastic and you should check it out.

To finish out this space I purchased the mirror from Target, and the plant books Wild at home by Hilton Carter and The New Plant Parent by Darryl Cheng are from my collection (two books that are my go to for plant help). The other things are either family heirlooms or things we have collected over time. The last things added of course are PLANTS. But if you know me then you knew those were going to be included its a given.

I have to say that when I walk into this room going to the laundry room it always makes me smile. It shows me that I’m one step closer to turning all my vision boards into reality.
