When you first think about how to decide your bedroom style I’m sure you run through many different looks. You might picture a darker room or a monochromatic room; you can honestly say there’s a lot of jumping around. If your aren’t sure what you want I would start with what you want the feeling in the room to be. A good idea to think about is how is the natural light hitting the room? Does the sun rise or set on this room? Does the sun shine into it at all? Something to think about.

In realizing that it can help in deciding the feel of it. Which usually will lead me to paint colors that would resonate that feeling.
PAINT
Picking a paint color for your space is a major part of resonating the feeling in the room. What helped me was when I realized the sun rises on our room; which I loved waking up to. You can see more here on how I decided on a lighter color on the walls and a darker color on the ceiling as well as the accent wall. The names of our colors are Lightweight beige by Sherwin Williams on the walls which gave such a beautiful undertone. In the morning it gives off this slight pinkness to it and in the afternoon it will take on a creamy tan. Put that with Roycroft Bronze Green by Sherwin Williams a deep grayish green for the ceiling and accent wall and the mood was set.
ACCENT WALL
Let’s dive into how to create a accent wall. Their are many different ways you can make an accent wall. You can make a statement here with a wallpaper print, shelving, or come up with a design of your own. I went with some inspiration from a wallpaper print that I had saved. This is a great way to come up with ideas because inspiration can come from anywhere. In this case the placement of the stripes gave me the idea for how to place the pieces on the wall. Which for me lead me to also deciding at the last minute that I wanted lean our art on a ledge instead of hanging it above the accent wall.
HARDWOOD FLOORS
Now the biggest part of this room renovation was installing new hardwood floors. We already knew that we wanted to match them as close as possible to the original flooring that we planned on redoing in the rest of the house. When you decide to take this on and you are wondering if it will match try this trick I did. Go into a closet and sand it down first and see what it will look like when it’s done that way you will have an idea of what look you’re trying to get to. I will admit in my mind I started getting nervous wondering if the other floors would match these? Which you can see below with our bedroom on the left and the office on the right that they did. I’m in love with them I must say. If you would like to see how we refinished our original floors you can see more here. You can see our entire office redo here.
CHEST OF DRAWERS
Adding our chest of drawers redo (which turned out so good), some of our plant babies, bedding, a new fan, new nightstands, and a rug (from Wayfair but they no longer have it but have some other beautiful choices) that we weren’t using at the moment completed the look for us.
REVEAL
Standing back and looking at the room I can honestly say that every time I walk into it or glance at it while walking by it makes me happy. That is what your home should make you feel….happy, relaxed, and love. Remember its your space…it should reflect the people living in it not how it looks to other people.
