Should I say that its happening again…? I know I said last week that we had begun but in my mind this is really the first week for me. In week 2 of the ORC (One Room Challenge) I was actually able to do something in the space not just share my mood board from week 1 for it. So what did I do you say….I pulled out my inner Bob Ross and painted.
Now that may not be that exciting for some people but for me (who is easily entertained by things) it was. Especially since the color I picked for this space is perfect for what I am aiming for. I wanted a color that would make the room cozy and relaxing in my mind (like an old find that corner to curl up in to read library) with that in mind Inkwell by Sherwin Williams does just that. It’s a dark blue; so dark blue that the employee at the store mixing it said to me “You know this isn’t black right?” “Yes sir I do.” The best way I can explain it is if you pull the ink stick out of a pen it’s literally that color blue.
With that let’s show you some before pics…again.
ooooooo ahhhhh that’s exciting isn’t it? Down to the incomplete name on the wall. So what I had on the walls is a very soft grey. It’s fine for what I was going for a couple years ago but now its just sorta cold for me.
So I’m running to the other side of the spectrum with a darker room. I will say that I’m on the fence about painting the trim the same color since the ceiling will be something different from this paint. But isn’t the color gorgeous?!
What you ask is happening with the ceiling… well you will have to just wait cause I’m not telling. No actually because what I ordered for the ceiling hasn’t come in yet.
So yeah.
But I can show you what I have in mind but haven’t decided on which one yet.
When I first saw the fifth wall wallpapered in The Real Simple Home 2019 by Shavonda Gardner and Carmeon Hamilton I fell in love instantly. I knew I was going to be doing it in one of the rooms. Of course my husband laughed cause he knew it was coming and said just that to me when I told him the plan…..lol.
The two that I picked are both great for the room but each give the room a different feel. So of course I don’t know which will work until they get here. I do better seeing things in the space before I make a final decision.
Let’s take a look shall we:
I at first thought I would do a floral type because I couldn’t get the Real Simple room out of my head but since my husband works in this room as well I decided to maybe find something that wouldn’t be so in his face or rather hanging over his head. I found these on Spoonflower while diving down the rabbit hole for wallpapers. On the left we have Napoleonic Bees and on the right is Sunburst Gold on Charcoal.
I’ve never hung wallpaper on a ceiling so that’s going to be interesting when the time comes. I’m sure their will be some angry faces and words while I figure it out but that’s just part of learning something new.
As my second week comes to a close I’m ready for the next step in creating this space by tackling the floors. We’ll dive into that more in the next couple of weeks. While you’re waiting make sure you check out some of the other fantastic ORC participants here. Their are some majorly talented rooms happening!
